Seasonal Tips:

  • Trane CleanEffects removes more than 99 percent of the common flu, or influenza A virus, from filtered air.  Since the swine or H1N1 virus is a form of influenza A, Trane CleanEffects can also remove more than 99 percent of this form of the virus from a home's filtered air.  CleanEffects can also remove up to 99.98 percent of allergens and particles such as dust, pollen, bacteria, pet dander, mold spores and smoke from your home's filtered air.
  • Check the air filters once a month during the operating season.  Replace them if they look dirty (some are washable).
  • Energy Star recommends investing in a digital programmable thermostat.  When no one is home during the day or for extended periods, a programmable thermostat can run the air conditioning at a temperature that will require less energy.  Then the program can adjust itself to a temperature to your liking before you come home.  Setting your temperature at 78 degrees F while home and setting it up 2 degrees F when away are recommended for energy savings.  Running your ceiling fan is much more energy efficient than lowering your thermostat.
  • Routinely have a pre-season check-up.  Consider purchasing a maintenance agreement through Airmax which covers both the heating and cooling seasons.  Having your system inspected and tuned can prevent a breakdown.

Greater Efficiency Equals Greater Savings

How efficient is your heating and cooling system? If your system is below current efficiency standards, then replacing it with a more efficient one can result in as much as 50% in annual savings for heating and cooling your home.

Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio

The efficiency of heating and cooling systems are measured according to their SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). The higher the rating the greater the efficiency. In April, 2004, the Department of Energy increased the minimum efficiency from 10 to 13 SEER, effective January, 2006. The majority of systems installed before 1992 are 10 SEER or below and will continue to drop in efficiency as the system ages. The systems that we carry not only already meet the government standard; in many cases they exceed it. By upgrading to a unit with a higher SEER you could potentially save thousands of dollars.
