3 Ductless AC Problems That Need Immediate Attention

Ductless air conditioning systems are an energy-efficient, flexible and convenient way to cool your Wilmington, NC, home. These modern ductless AC systems allow you to set up cooling zones in your home, saving you money and optimizing each person’s comfort. Like other air conditioning systems, they can develop some problems. Here are three ductless AC problems that require immediate attention from a professional technician.

No Cooling

If the system doesn’t power on, it could have a thermostat problem, electrical malfunction or motor problem. If there’s no air blowing out of the indoor unit, it could have a dirty filter. When warm air blows from the unit, a clogged filter or dirt inside or outside the air conditioner is often the reason. There could also be a refrigerant leak. Repairing a refrigerant leak requires the help of an experienced HVAC technician.

Leaks

With a ductless air conditioning system, the conduit that carries the liquid refrigerant runs along the wall or ceiling of the room and connects to the outdoor unit. Each zone has its own indoor compressor and conduit, explains the Department of Energy. A crack or break in the conduit could cause water or refrigerant to leak into your home. An obstruction caused by dirt or muck in the conduit or condensate line could also cause a water leak. These problems require prompt evaluation.

Unusual Noises

Unusual sounds coming from your ductless AC are usually related to the outdoor unit. The condenser has a large motor and fan. Some debris could have fallen through the unit’s housing, causing a loud noise as the fan hits it. A loose part could cause a banging, grinding, screeching or squealing sound. A broken or bent part could also make unusual or loud sounds, and those require a prompt AC repair.
