4 Ways An HVAC System Can Impact Sleep Quality in Pender County, NC

Believe it or not, your HVAC system in Pender County, NC, has the potential to impact your sleep and leave you feeling groggy the next morning. Anything from improper temperatures to strange noises coming from your heater can leave you tossing and turning instead of sleeping soundly. In this blog, we discuss four different ways that your HVAC system may impact your sleep quality and what you can do about it.

1. Temperature

According to the Sleep Foundation, people naturally sleep better in a room where the temperature is about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. An HVAC system that can’t keep your bedroom at this temperature is preventing you from restful sleep. A furnace that leaves you shivering also interrupts sleep and should get checked as soon as possible.

2. Humidity

Just like heat, high humidity levels leave you sweating and uncomfortable. Too little humidity, on the other hand, may leave you with dry, itchy skin, throat or eyes as well as a persistent cough or allergy-like symptoms.

Sleep.org notes that ideal humidity for sleeping is 40 to 60%. A humidifier or dehumidifier may help your bedroom reach this level.

3. Air Quality

A common HVAC problem that you can fix yourself is a clogged furnace filter. Without this to trap particulate matter in the air, air quality issues can keep allergy-prone household members up at night. Change the filter, and see if it helps.

4. Sounds and Smells

Loud banging, humming or whistling noises all naturally stifle deep sleep. They can also be a sign that your HVAC system needs repair or a general inspection from one of our technicians. A burning smell is another alarm bell you shouldn’t ignore.

Think a tune-up is just the fix you need for your poor sleep quality issues? Give us a call at Airmax Heating & Cooling and schedule a maintenance appointment. We look forward to working with you!
